About Me

the difference a private instructor will make

Kids that find the love of music should be given the extra attention they need to really excel at playing the instrument or instruments of their choice. Kids can get a great head-start on learning how to play instruments at school, but to really give them the training they need to be truly great, private lessons are important. I have seen the difference that the private lessons can make for a kid while watching my son learn how to play the piano. It took some time for me to find the right instructor, but once we did, his skill levels went through the roof. My site is filled with tips and advice that can help parents find the right music instructor and how to fit these private lessons into your day to day life.

How To Make The Most Of Your Time Spent With A Tutor

If you decide to take the plunge and hire a private tutor, you will be able to experience many advantages. Your knowledge and understanding of the subject that you are trying to study will increase and you will find yourself being able to ask questions and get a deeper understanding than you otherwise would have without the one-on-one attention. However, you cannot gain all off the benefits of tutoring if you are not prepared. Here's what you need to do in order to make the most of the time spent with your tutor.

1. Attempt Every Homework Problem Ahead of Time

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you attempt each homework problem ahead of time in order to ensure that you give yourself the full opportunity to do the homework without any outside assistance. This will increase your feelings of competence and confidence in the subject and make you more likely to perform better on tests. Even if you cannot do all of the problems by yourself, you want to attempt each problem in order to get a grasp of what is being asked. Then, you can ask your tutor specific questions about each problem rather than a general "how do I do this?" type of question.

Trying every homework problem ahead of time also reduces the chances that you won't be able to get all of the help you need in the time your tutor has set aside for you and ensure that you are able to complete your homework without the tutor essentially doing it for you.

2. Stay On Track

Put away all of your electronics and expect your tutor to do the same. By putting away your phone, you signal to the tutor that phone use is not acceptable and that you expect his or her full attention to be on you while you two are together. This will also enable you to complete your work without getting distracted by games or social media.

3. Write Down Your Tutor's Answers

Whenever you ask your tutor a question, make sure that you write it down. This will allow you to avoid having to ask a similar problem in the future because you will have tips and tricks for solving the problem archived. You will avoid wasting time with your tutor because you can ask your tutor the questions that you haven't asked yet.

For more information, talk to your private tutor. He or she will have seen students maximize their time and will be able to relay their habits to you.
